General Education Center

General Education Center was set up in 2001. It is in charge of planning the courses of Chinese, English, Mathematics, Sociology, Science, and Physical education and other general knowledge courses, which are categorized into core and developing general courses.

Core general courses, required in every department, is designed to make students equipped with the ability to master both native and foreign languages in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and have a basic knowledge of history and a common sense of citizenship.These courses are added to make every student from different departments endowed with a more complete education background.

Developing general courses are versatilely designed to evenly broaden the knowledge of every student in natural, applied, social, and life sciences, and humanities and art. These courses are offered in the hope of making students whole and have even broader knowledge in addition to their specialized fields.

In 2002, the center received two project funds from the Ministry of Education: “Planning of Integrated Basic Education Course Clusters in Knowledge Based Economic Era” and “Course Planning of General Education on Inter-communication among Different Academic Fields”. It is expected that we can plow deeply in the field of general education via the execution of these two projects, and that students, through the choice of courses to their interest among the various courses, can better themselves in the process of learning.
