Guidelines for the Admission of FIT Foreign Students

Article 1 These guidelines are base on the fifth article of Regulations for Studying in Taiwan and Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students
Article 2 Foreign students stated in these guidelines refer to those who do not possess the identity of overseas compatriot students and do not possess the nationality of R.O.C.. Those foreign students applying for studying in R.O.C., who possess both the nationality of R.O.C. and that of other countries, can’t apply for studying in R.O.C. within the eight years, from which they are declared by Ministry of Interior as losing the nationality of R.O.C.. The date of the application is based on the date of FIT school beginning day.
Article 3 Foreign students with the degree (or equivalency qualification)of senior high school can apply for the admission of four-year college bachelor program. The recognition of the equivalency qualification is based on the second article of Criteria for Recognition of Equivalency Qualifications for Junior College Entrance Examination Registration. Foreign students with the degree (or equivalency qualification) of junior colleges can apply for the admission of two-year college bachelor program. The recognition of the equivalency qualification is based on Qualifications for the Diploma of Two-year University of Technology Program Registration. Foreign students with the degree (or equivalency qualification) of bachelor can apply for the admission of master program. The recognition of the equivalency qualification is based on the third article of Criteria for Recognition of Equivalency Qualifications for University Registration.
Article 4 The class instruction is in Mandarin Chinese. FIT will ask the applicants to possess the ability of Mandarin speaking and listening.
Article 5 The quota of recruiting foreign students is set by adding up 10% (at most)of the total number of each department’s freshmen to the total number of each department’s freshmen. And the quota of each department can be transferred to other departments.
Article 6 The recruiting quota of foreign students does not include those foreign students who do not possess the formal membership of FIT.
Article 7 Those who apply to study for master degree in the first semester should submit their application by March 31 each year; those who apply to study for master degree in the second semester should submit their application be December 31 each year; and those who apply to study for bachelor degree can only study in the first semester and should submit their application by May 1 each year. Please prepare the following documents and submit them to the General Affairs Division in Department of Academic Affairs. Those who pass the inspection or examination will be issued the admission. Together with the documents, please attach the medical insurance or the national health insurance certificate.
Article 8 Those who apply to study for master degree in the first semester should submit their application by March 31 each year; those who apply to study for master degree in the second semester should submit their application be December 31 each year; and those who apply to study for bachelor degree can only study in the first semester and should submit their application by May 1 each year. Please prepare the following documents and submit them to the General Affairs Division in Academic Affairs Office. Those who pass the inspection or examination will be issued the admission. Together with the documents, please attach the medical insurance or the national health insurance certificate.
1. Two application forms.
2. Highest diploma documents, including the graduation certificate and school transcripts of each year.
3. Two letters of recommendation.
4. Health Checkup Form (including AIDS).
5. Study plan in Chinese or English.
6. Financial Statement (for studying here in R.O.C.).
7. Application fee.
8. Other documents required by the department applied.
The so-called foreign schools in the above second item include Taipei School and Overseas Compatriot Chinese in foreign countries; the so-called graduation certificates (excluding those issued by Taipei School and Overseas Compatriot Chinese in foreign countries ) should get certified according to the Procedural Guidelines for Verification and Recognition of Foreign Educational Qualifications.
Article 9 By November 30th, FIT shall submit to Ministry of Education the list of enrolled foreign students, in which the details such as names, nationalities, grades or levels, and departments, are provided.
Article 10 Those foreign students, who apply for studying in R.O.C. and have obtained the admission through the procedure needed, will be provided with the same rights as those for domestic students here if they apply for further advanced education in R.O.C.
Article 11 Those foreign students who are removed from their enrolled colleges or universities shall not apply for the admission.
Article 12 FIT do not accept those foreign students who select courses to study for fulfilling the requirements of other universities.
Article 13 Those admitted foreign students who come to FIT after the time of one third of that semester are not allowed to enroll for that school year. However, agreed by the chairperson of the department they belong to, students of graduate schools are allowed to enroll or register in the following semester.
Article 14 Those foreign students, who apply for retaining the admission, school transferring, department transferring, suspending , removing out, and other related things such as student identification, grades, and conduct evaluations, should follow the related school regulations. Department of Academic Affairs is in charge of the applications for the admission; Department of Disciplinary Affairs is in charge of the conduct evaluation; and Students Counseling Center is in charge of school work counseling.
Article 15 FIT’s Students’ Affairs Office will help those students with excellent grades on all studying courses apply for the scholarship for foreign students.
Article 16 During the period of studying in FIT, foreign students should follow the laws of R.O.C. and related school regulations.
Article 17 Those issues which are not regulated here will be determined based on the Regulations for Studying in Taiwan and Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students and FIT’s school regulations.
Article 18 These regulations should be passed by the administration meeting, and put into practice after being examined by Ministry of Education. When there is a need to revise the above regulations, the procedure is the same as the aforementioned.
